The Arthaus Artist Residency: How It Works, and How to Apply

The program that brought Kaethe Butcher to Arthaus is open to a small number of new artists each year. Here is how it works — and how to put your name forward.

Kaethe Butcher's residency is part of a broader Arthaus commitment: to give independent artists the infrastructure of a gallery and a publisher without asking them to surrender their voice. Each year a small cohort is invited into the Arthaus Artist in Residence program. Applications for the next cohort are open now.

What the residency provides

  • A dedicated storefront — a fully built, artist-branded shop like this one, with print fulfillment, framing and worldwide shipping handled end to end.
  • Archival print production — museum-grade giclée output and art-directed mockups, so the work is represented exactly as intended.
  • Editorial & reach — features across the Arthaus Journal and social channels, including a launch film introducing the artist and the work.
  • Studio support — a stipend and production budget designed to buy back time, so artists can make rather than manage.
  • Artist-first terms — you keep your rights and your name; Arthaus handles the operations.

Who it's for

The program is built for independent visual artists — illustrators, painters, printmakers and mixed-media makers — with a distinctive point of view and a body of work ready to meet a wider audience. Prior gallery representation is not required. A clear artistic voice is.

How to apply

Send a short introduction, a link to your portfolio or Instagram, and a sentence or two on what you would make with the room to do it. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
